The “Lieberman Problem” in the Democratic Party

The hard-left backlash against Sen. Joe Lieberman (D-Conn) is not good for either the Democratic Party or the nation. It shows a large polarization even within the party, I know Democrats who are shocked that Joe Lieberman even has a serious challenge. The Gateway Pundit has a great roundup of the most recent developments in an ever nastier campaign. Check out the video that Gateway links to and to see how some on the far left are unhinged about Lieberman’s vote to not require religious hospitals to provide the morning after pill. That is an issue that affects Catholic hospitals that are doing yeoman’s work for no profit. Make sure to read a few of the unhinged comments in the comment section below the video.

1. The "Morning After Pill" is exactly the same as the regular birth control pill. It's just a larger dose. So if you fill prescriptions for that, then there should be no reason why you don't for the Morning After Pill.

2. People's medical prescriptions should not be subject to the religious beliefs of the person filling them. That's like a vegetarian waitress not serving meat (except that won't change someone's life).

They can believe whatever they want, but to deny somebody else a pill (which by the way, will help lower the amount of abortions) is wrong.

3. The Morning After Pill is supposed to be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex. It gets less effective as you get up to 72. So getting it as quickly as possible is critical.

Thanks for your comments but I must stress that
these are Catholic hospitals doing yeomans work in what are often underseved areas at a financial cost to the Catholic Church. It strikes me as selfish to ask the Catholic Church to act in the manner that others deem. We should not try to make the perfect the enemy of the good, whatever perfection may be. I would be shocked if those Catholic hospitals are prescribing birth control pills in the first place, so that arguement is problematic. Vegetarianism is a religion?
I believe that the senator has spoken to time issue; it is a cold answer, no doubt but it keeps a much needed hospital around for everyone else.
