My Senator is an Embarrassment

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) made a bizarre statement today that indicating that he believes that we will be running our cars on ethanol, Midwestern corn he called it. He also stated that it would produce good jobs for Americans; and here I thought that the family farm was dying. Powerline addressed Durbin and his fellow Senate democrats quite accurately with:

"’Energy independence’ is one more in a long series of issues on which the Democrats have nothing serious to contribute.”

The Powerline post includes an audio clip of Durbin, it is sad.

Have read we don't have enough farmland in whole country to produce the ethonal we would need. Expensive high maintenance cost eneffective hybrids are probably the next phase. Doubt they will save our profit disoreintated auto industry.

Indeed, without a dramatic breakthrough we do not have enough farmland to grow enough corn to fuel our vehicles, not to mention farm machinery. If we go to ethanol it seems likely that we would use a combination of flavors, notably sugar beets and maybe even Bush’s favorite, switch grasses. Flying Debris touched on these issues twice (links below) and is becoming more of a fan of the E85 fuel for possible racing applications.
