Obama Gets Campaign Cash From Gaza - II

This post was initially posted on August 5. In light of the Republican National Committee's charges of illegal campaign fund raising by the Obama campaign this is a good time to take another look at some more Obama illegal fund raising.

As far as we know Obama has not taken illegal campaign cash from monks like Al Gore did a dozen years ago but the Obama campaign is taking illegal campaign donations from non-citizens living in the Gaza Strip. Atlas Shrugged has had the story on last fall's donations by the Edwan brothers who listed their state as GA and their Zip Code as 972, GA is the Gaza Strip and 972 is in Israel. Federal campaign regulations require donors to be American citizens and those regulations limit donations to $2,300 per person.

The Gaza Strip address that the brothers used should have been the first tip for the Obama campaign but what the heck, they took $24,321.41 from one brother and $5,200.13 from the other. That number brings up something interesting, why are the totals not some simple large round numbers? In this World Net Daily interview Monir Edwan claimed that he and his brother bought tee-shirts from the Obama site but he claimed to have made a profit selling the shirts at less than half the price charged on the Obama site and claimed to have received the shirts during an Israeli crackdown on the Gaza Strip. It sounds as if the tee shirt story is a lie and the WND reporter pretty much shreds it. So it is likely that the brothers made their donations on a credit card of a round number in a foreign currency, it is unlikely that they randomly chose that donation level in American dollars. Did the Obama campaign offer donation levels in foreign currencies?

This clearly illegal fund raising is in addition to the illegal fund raising raffle that they reworked as a bait & switch to pass the test of legality.

Obama Campaign Runs Illegal Raffle

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is investigating the Obama campaign's online raffle, political raffles are illegal in Minnesota. "We are not conducting a raffle of any kind," said Obama spokesman Nick Kimball, however the website offered a chance to meet Obama in Denver at the convention with a friend and the prize included at least transportation and to get a chance to win that prize the player had to donate to the Obama campaign, that fulfills Minnesota's and any reasonable definition of the word "raffle".

Last night (Tuesday night) the Obama campaign took the political raffle off of their website and then announced that donations would not be required for the raffle. Is it legal to offer a prize for a political donation anywhere in America? By including at least transportation to Denver (and I would presume some sort of lodging) the prize has monetary value so I wonder what they were thinking. However this whole scheme sounds like what we should expect from the Obama campaign and a possible Obama administration, they put up an illegal fundraising scheme on their website, deny, deny when they are called on it and change the raffle before the press is forced to pay too much attention to the issue.

Gore Laments Fundraising - Suggests Clinton/Gore ’96 as Model

Time Magazine has excerpted Al Gore’s aptly named new book The Assault on Reason and it contains some very helpful hints for US Senators forced to run for reelection. In his new book the former Vice President laments that former Ku Klux Klan member and current Senator, Robert C. Byrd (D-WV) was forced to observe that Senate members were not even in the chamber when Byrd presented another in a long line of his boring and nonsensical speeches. Al Gore brilliantly answered Byrd’s question of where the other Senators were that fateful day with the retort, “(t)he chamber was empty because the Senators were somewhere else.” A statement like that from the man who was once a heartbeat away from the Presidency is, well, frightening.

The former Vice President further wrote that members of the Senate spend too much time raising funds for elections and suggested that they should concentrate their fundraising activities on foreign nationals “like President Clinton and I did.” Mr. Gore suggested getting in touch with any Buddhist Temples in the Senator’s state saying that “those Chinese, they love to gamble, they love American politics, they are concerned about the environment and they want to help!” Gore also mentioned the possibility of registering illegal aliens and criminals to vote saying that “once you have helped them falsify their citizenship papers they will vote for you from beyond the grave.” Mr. Gore also stated that Democratic Senators should consider “raiding the Lock Box to ensure that they can continue saving Social Security from those evil neo-con Republicans”

Warning: the Al Gore quotes in the second paragraph are satirical, as far as I know.

Thanks to the wonderful Dr. Sanity for inclusion in her Carnival of the Insanities again this week.
